What would the mood be like at this year's Diamond Dreams Gala? Astros Foundation supporters and baseball fans were unsure what to expect as they entered Minute Maid Park last Friday night.
Some 1,400 guests -- the fifth annual soiree's largest crowd to date -- dressed as instructed per the event invitation: "fun, funky & warm." After they checked-in at Union Station and trickled onto the field, a dazzling wall of silver streamers spelled out what was to come in bold-faced letters: Disco.
If laughter is the best medicine, then a dance party is a close second.
At the tail-end of a tough week for the home team, a celebration of the Astros' philanthropic spirit was just what the doctor ordered. And a decent gift for the team's owner and chairman, Jim Crane, whose birthday also fell on Jan. 17.
